Bamman certainly believes it was a “terrible mistake” to jettison the McCallister family cast, particularly as it would have been an opportunity to further flesh out his role. Uncle Frank is very prominently shown to have a natural hatred for Kevin and jealousy of his brother's income. Luminescence9 speculated on Reddit that Uncle Frank may have hired Harry and Marv to rob the house and make Kevin the prime suspect, as he was the only one alone in the house, and a kid, making the crime that much more believable. A very weird and unorthodox reaction to a simple police visit leads the internet users to believe that Peter is in fact a gang leader, which could explain his large income. Add in an uncle that seems very dubious and one son who seems completely sadistic, and this family might be married to the mob. T contribute the comedic relief or begrudging likability that Marv or Harry brought to the Home Alonefilms.
But is it enough to suggest he called his mates Harry and Marv all the way from Paris, telling them to go rob the house and to harm Kevin while they're at it if needs be? In order to get the most authentic performance possible, Joe Pesci did his best to avoid Macaulay Culkin on the set so that the young actor would indeed be afraid of him. Telling your own kids off for misbehaving is one thing, and it’s not what parenting experts advise anyway, favoring talking through how they should have behaved rather than focusing on what they actually did. But telling someone else’s kid off, particularly in their own house, in a manner dripping with contempt and disdain? Kevin isn’t blameless in the kitchen situation — a plain cheese pizza from a major chain is a ridiculous thing to order. Kevin’s cousin Fuller (played by Macaulay Culkin’s younger brother, future Succession star Kieran Culkin) similarly knows that he wets the bed but goes hog wild on the Pepsi anyway. Kevin is surrounded by people actively making life worse for him, yet when he responds, he’s insulted and embarrassed with none of that taken into account. The sad thing about this alleged legend is that even if it had a shred of credibility, it would change the entire storyline of the movie and demote Culkin and Pesci to lesser roles.
While preparing to leave, Frank did not let his nephew Kevin watch a movie. There are fifteen people in this house and you're the only one who has to make trouble. Given how successful he’s been in keeping everyone out of his bed, you can’t help but think that it’s deliberate.
He Makes Kevin Feel Excluded
And the second movie starts with Peter, very suspiciously, leaving Kevin behind, on purpose in the airport. These scenarios in the movies further form as evidence of this extremely probable theory, which is not as far-fetched as it would seem at first-glance. Again, going to the family, this theory proposes that Peter McCalsiter shares no bond or loving relationship with his son, Kevin, rather seeks to, somehow, get rid of him.
But his uncle, who's supposed to be a "better example" for the rest of the kids? The idea was scrapped, as Pesci and Stern refused to reprise their roles, and wanted to pursue other projects, and Kieran felt he couldn’t follow in his brother’s footsteps as the lead. Hughes then wrote an entirely different screenplay with no characters from the first two films. For the first time, the original “Home Alone” house will become available on Airbnb for a $25 overnight stay, if you’re fast enough to book it.
